First up in the series, we have a talented AWD? artist to introduce to you, and their story is just the beginning of the captivating narratives we're excited to share.
Are there specific topics, genres, or styles you want to explore in the Ghosts?
A ghost isn't just a paranormal experience. It's memories, fleeting feelings, really anything that isn't tangible and seems to happen in the blink of an eye. I want to explore what a ghost means to the ensemble focusing on "what haunts us, what are we afraid of, what happens next and something inexplicable/freaky." Delicious always has a flare for comedy but for this show we are exploring uneasiness and some drama as well.
What's the overall structure of the show?
We have 5 ensemble members who are each writing a scene and we will also have a monologue scene and a devised group piece. The show is a Delicious Classic in that the scenes are vignettes and the actors are playing different characters.
What techniques will AWD? use to support and build upon each of the writer/actors ideas during scene building?
We used a randomized matrix to decide who writes for whom and who acts for who. Then we give feedback as a group and let the author of the scene edit. This process is collaborative.
Are there specific ways you want to experiment and push the boundaries of the AWD? traditions in this show?
We aren't using total randomness for this show. In previous AWD it's 8 people, 8 props and 8 costumes thrown in the matrix and that's what you write about. This show has a softer matrix.
What's your vision for the overall atmosphere and energy of the show? How will you convey this during the performance?
Music, lights and elements you can't see (ex: knocking, distant noises, eyes playing tricks) will accomplish the unease that we are going for.
